Our History
The GLOBAL CARE CANCER INSTITUTE INC. (GCCI INC.) was born out of the need to provide oncologic care with high standards and reasonable prices to our fellow countrymen with little to no access to said service.
In the recent past, complete oncologic care could only be obtained in Metro Manila; and this would pose logistic obstacles to those patients in the far southern areas who are in dire need of precision diagnosis and treatment of their malignancies. Although some hospitals in the south already offer out-patient chemotherapy units, they lack other facilities like radiotherapy units and complete oncology-centric diagnostics and imaging areas. As a result, the patients need to travel to one area for a partial service, then to another area for another service, and yet to another area for yet another service.
Burdened by these, a yearning to create a complete oncology center in the South was shared by Dr. Roderick S. Mujer with Engr. Ricardo D. Celino. The renowned surgeon encouraged his businessman partner and friend to create a team that will set-up a center to provide the much needed medical service in the area. Hence, in May of 2017, the formal conceptualization and planning of the CANCER INSTITUTE started. This was spearheaded by Dr. Roderick Mujer, Engr. Ricardo D. Celino, Dr Robert Joseph B. Almoro, Mr. Bonagilbert Umali and Dr. Freddy Lyn Jade P. Moog. Series of meetings were held to organize the different needs of the cancer center using the MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM approach.
By January 2018, the construction of the institute commenced. More and more partners became interested in this promising venture, hence by February 2018, the ground breaking ceremony at the acquired property beside Global Care Medical Center of Bay was held.
The untimely loss of the Chairman, Dr. Mujer in February 2019 and the Vice President/COO, Dr. Joel C. Mendoza in 2020 coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, challenged but did not hinder the development and progress of GCCI toward its targeted grand opening in the last quarter of 2021.
The GCCI Inc. moved toward its operations with the abled leadership of Dr. Celso S. Ramos (Chairman of the Board/CEO), Dr. Necy S. Juat (President/COO), and Dr. Catherine S. Teh (Cancer Director), and its Board of Directors, continually seeking to provide patient-centered care through a multi-disciplinary team approach and comprehensive cancer care by means of state-of-the-art facilities.
